    THEMES

    COCKERMOUTH SCHOOL, Cockermouth
    "Hansel and Gretel"

Child poverty, hunger, mental and physical abuse, domestic violence, abandonment and kidnap... not themes you would often associate with a fairy tale! Come with us as we follow Hansel and Gretel on a perilous journey, where they encounter friendly fairies, dancing sweets and evil gingerbread men. Watch as they bravely overcome their fears and reunite with their repentant father.

    CRICKHOWELL HIGH SCHOOL, Powys, Wales
"If we don't learn from history we are doomed!"

Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Some have made mistakes that have led to tragedy, others plot to kill and maim. We have chosen four episodes from the past, which our jury will dismiss with the push of a button. If only it was as easy as that.

    MAYFIELD SCHOOL, Whitehaven
"Do your eyes see what they want to see?"

The traditional fair that the travellers bring to town every year is going well until a fire deliberately started endangers a life. One man shows himself to be a hero. Who started the fire and who is the brave rescuer? Do we judge people because of their differences before we really know them?

    SOUTHFIELD TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE, Workington
    "Beauty Within"

Jane Barnell, a baby born with down covering her tiny face brings upset and conflict to a once happy family. A mother's inability to accept a daughter that doesn’t conform to society drives her father away before Jane herself, whilst still only young, is sold to a travelling circus. This, unbeknownst to her, shapes her life for better and worse.

Two females with contrasting backgrounds find themselves in the same situation after committing the ultimate crime - murder. In prison they redeem themselves. It's about changing oneself. What comes around, may turn around.
