      Our story is centred on a beautiful young woman whose lovely nature tames the animal in man. It is a parable of individual characters understanding that true goodness cannot be judged on appearance alone, for beauty is found within.

    "The Roaring 20's"

      The Roaring 20's was an era full of youthful rebellion fuelled by alcohol and money to burn. Popular dance styles included The Charleston and later progressed to a faster, more physical style of dance known as Lindy Hop. Our dance is inspired by the dance, music, art and fashion from this exciting era.

    SIR JOHN GLEED SCHOOL
    "Let Him Have It"

      These words uttered by Bentley during a police shootout sealed his fate. What did he mean? Was Bentley telling Craig to shoot the approaching policeman or, as the defence contended, was Craig to hand the policeman the gun? Based on a true story, Bentley hanged for this crime. How many innocent victims have been sentenced to the gallows?

Was this not her desire? Sarah has thirteen hours to unravel the twisted maze of deception and ultimately learn who truly holds the power over us all.

      Through an eclectic mix of dance, our girls will take the audience on a journey through the different aspects of climate change.     "Forgotten Voices"

      This performance explores the courage, loyalty and commitment of soldiers of World War I. Using Sebastian Faulks' Bird Song as a starting point, dancers have worked with dedication to produce a piece which we hope will provoke emotion and respect for those who were affected by the outbreak.

    "Creepy Crawly Lessons"

      Walking through the park Emily becomes upset with her boyfriend's selfish, womanising ways. Distraught, she is surprised when a cricket leads her into the insect world of free-loving butterflies, hierarchical ants and possessive dung beetles. Through the life of the insects she begins to see more clearly her boyfriend's flaws and wonders if she would be better off without him?

    "Midsummer Madness"

      Our Rock Challenge piece "Midsummer Madness" is based upon the story and ideas within "A Midsummers Night's Dream" by William Shakespeare. When a girl from the real world is transported into the book all her troubles are left behind as the fantasy world takes over allowing her to get lost in the madness.

      In today's society it is so easy to see the world through media. Two girls embark upon a journey exploring some of the wonders and cultures from around the world. On their journey they discover the world should be as one, placing a positive value on Equality and Diversity around the world.

    "Insight"

      Comforted by the sound and movement of her musical box doll, a child enters a bizarre world where the doll is exchanged for money and wealth, but the heroic dragons betray her and she loses money as well as her precious doll. Help comes from an unlikely source, and she is reunited with her doll and the nightmare is ended.

    "Light overcomes Darknesst"

      Jesus said "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." The dancers represent forces of temptation (darkness), and the light within us, when life was created. Light shines through and conquers all when we are lit by Jesus entering our hearts.

    "It's a small world"

      When a child doesn't understand why people look and act differently, she is taken on a trip to learn about different cultures. While travelling, she makes new friends and begins to understand that we are not so different after all.

      "A Fish out of Water" takes you into the ocean to explore life and a hidden world under the sea. Deep in the blue waters, societal diversity, belonging and exclusion are issues for those living in an ever-changing world of merging cultures. Meet a range of sea life characters personified to represent 'stereotypes' identifiable in our everyday life.

    "Weeping Willow"

      When the Mandarin discovers his daughter's love for a poor servant boy, she is banished to the house. Once the blossom falls from the willow tree, she must marry a noble warrior as her father promised. Her nightmare reveals the misery of life in a loveless marriage. Frightened, she flees with her lover. Revenge for this betrayal seals their fate.

    "Cuento De hadas De Ofelia"

      Ofelia's fairy tale is our own rendition of the Spanish film Pan's Labyrinth. The film is a dark fable staged during the Spanish Civil War. We have taken on some of the characters, magical creatures from the film, and aim to take you on a journey through the imagination. But the question is; which journey will Ofelia decide to take?

    "Narcissus"

      Narcissus, handsome but vain, frequents a nightclub owned by womaniser Zeus and his jealous wife Hera. Admired by all who sees him, he cruelly rejects poor Echo's advances. Aphrodite, on seeing his heartlessness, punishes Narcissus, resulting in him falling in love with his reflection. Sit back and reflect as Team Howden brings a classic Greek myth into the 21st Century.

    "The Reconstruction of Hope"

      In the not so distant future a boy deals with the grief of his father's death. Unwilling to accept support from his closest friend, the boy's agony grows as he builds a replacement Father. The metal construction causes the boy to spiral out of control and threatens to hurt everyone he loves. Can you reconstruct what was once lost?

      St. Annes' are proud to be part of the Artsmark network and this year we are hoping to secure Artsmark status.       One night Martha put on her wolf suit and made mischief. Her mother called her "Wild thing" sending her to bed. That night a forest grew in Martha's room and "Wild things" appeared. Martha tamed them and crowned herself queen. The rumpus began! Eventually Martha sent the monsters to bed. Lonely, she realised she loved her mum most of all.

      We all know our Nursery Rhymes; Jack and Jill fell down the hill, Bo Peep lost her sheep and poor Old Mother Hubbard's cupboard was bare. Maybe all is not as it seems. Maybe a cheeky character from a neighbouring town created the chaos in what was once a calm, happy and safe place to live.

      Egypt, ruled by divine power and deity, Osiris and Isis were King and Queen over Earth. Chaos and evil ruled the land until Horus, son of Osiris and Isis, avenged his father’s death to become almighty ruler over land and sky.

      For every action there is a consequence, whether it's good or bad. Here we look at gang culture. Who is affected most by the actions of gangs? Is it the members? Their friends? Their family? Or does everyone suffer as a consequence of Gang culture?

    "Self-Destruction"

      This piece explores the battle between strength and weakness through Witchcraft. The bad witches use their magical powers to cast spells to weaken the good witch’s conscious minds. As the piece unfolds, the children become the conscious mind and the addiction. The witches become enemies trying to fix their bad habit, highlighting self-destruction through suffering and neglect.

    "The Quest"

      Join Merlin for a quest a quest for what? A quest for a quest. The king and his knights will travel 500 miles on, an adventure filled with danger, be prepared to run away but don’t worry I’m not dead yet. Join us for lots of fun filled frolics.     "Wonderland"

      Let us open the book and be transported into a world of fantasy and imagination. Our interpretation of 'Wonderland' sees an updated twist of events leaving Alice enchanted and exhilarated by her adventure.

    "Panic! with Persephone"

      Hades was content being God of the underworld until he learned that brother Zeus had a beautiful daughter called Persephone who resided on Earth. Hades said to Zeus ‘She will be my wife for all eternity or Earth will be destroyed’. Panic sets in. Demeter the harvest goddess, Persephone’s mother, is devastated and tries to help. What will Persephone decide?

      The greatest challenge is often life itself. The things that we see, the sounds that we hear and the words that we speak can alter and change our lives in ways out of our control. Will the five brave individuals, succumb to the temptations of life?

      Ofelia travels with her mother to meet her stepfather, a merciless Captain. Upon her arrival she meets a faun that tells her she is a princess, and promises her that she will be reunited with her father if she completes three tasks. During this journey she is forced to deal with the reality of mortality and the meaning of self-sacrifice.

    "Life and Legacy!"

      Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry for studies in radiation. During WW1 she organised portable X-ray machines for the front line. Her legacy lives on through 'Marie Curie Cancer Care'. "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less!"

    ARCHBISHOP SENTAMU ACADEMY
    "Fallen Leaves"

      A family tree is catapulted into turmoil following the tragic loss of Father. Failing to cope, Mother spirals out of control damaging her daughter and herself. But from underneath the rubble sings a rebel song - the rejection of her daughter cannot last as personal journeys ensue. Finding their way back to each other; fallen leaves always return to their roots.

      This year we started our very own new beginning with the opening of the Boulevard Academy. We have become a very cohesive team and discovered that we are stronger together! Our performance tells the story of Hull showing what divided and brought the city together. The difficulties faced highlight that people are stronger when they are united and work together.

    WILBERFORCE 6TH FORM COLLEGE
    "Take flight, aim high!"

      People of Hull past and present are inspirational. Amy Johnson was one of the most important pioneers in Hull's proud history. Johnson was the first female pilot to fly solo from Britain to Australia at the young age of 26 in 1928. Despite her tragic death in 1941 she still remains a significant character that put Hull on the map.

    WINIFRED HOLTBY ACADEMY
    "Lord of the Flies"

      Stranded on a deserted island, a group of schoolboys search for order. Ralph, the symbol of civilisation and productive leadership, is elected leader but will the strong-willed, power-hungry Jack, the symbol of savagery and violence, overthrow? As the battle intensifies and the boys descend into savagery, who will survive? Will they make it off the island? Who will save them?

      Longhill Primary School will take you back in a time machine to show you how Hull has changed and developed throughout the eras. Starting from the devastation of World War Two within the city and how it has rebuilt itself. Plus celebrating the talents and skills leading up to the current day success - City of Culture 2017.

      This year our nation remembers those who took part in the First World War. We have thought about what happened in the last century and the many different wars that have taken place and are still going on. Our dance piece is our expression of the feelings we feel people may have experienced throughout a century of war and peace.

    "Heroes"

      We explore the theme of "Heroes" by moving from fantasy superheroes through to a well-known historical hero and then heroes we may meet in our everyday lives. Finally we reflect on the fact that, regardless of where we live or come from, anyone of us can be a hero. Our dance styles include middle Eastern, 1980s pop and contemporary shadow.

    "I thought I was special"

      The following performance highlights some of the themes surrounding Child Sexual Exploitation. Our piece will focus on the rising theme of peer-on-peer grooming, and some of the many circumstances that young people find themselves in; such as parties, drug and alcohol abuse and pregnancy.
