    THEMES

    ASHFIELD GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL, Belfast
"It's not where you start it's where you finish!"

In the town of Ballygobackwards, the donkey derby is cancelled. The punters think they've a "sure winner" when the hare challenges the tortoise to a race. However the leprechaun knows different! In life we don't all have the same abilities but with dedication, we can succeed. Watch as the tortoise proves - It's not where you start it's where you finish!

BUTTERSHAW BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE COLLEGE, Bradford, West Yorkshire
    "Armageddon"

She stands invisible, alone and ignored.
An evil eye which prays on the weak entices her into a world without warmth,
With one last match can she conjure a flame?
Ice and fire battle for supremacy of the earth
Can the roaring flames melt this cold lifeless queen
Or will this land remain forever frozen?
      This is Armageddon.

HORNSEA SCHOOL AND LANGUAGE COLLEGE, Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire
    "Time Waits For No Man"

Blessed with the most precious gift of time what happens if we squander it and don't appreciate its true value? Watch as the time thieves steal this gift away until Jack learns the important lesson of how to use time more wisely and not to waste precious moments no matter how small after all ‘time waits for no man'.

KESTEVEN AND GRANTHAM GIRLS' SCHOOL, Grantham, Lincolnshire
    "ZOMBIE NATION"

When a whole group of people are totally dominated individuality becomes a thing of the past. They become the blind following the blind - a zombie nation. This is the story of the one who resists. When one person refuses to submit to the domination of the professor and his madness his power over the people soon begins to fail.

THE LINDSEY SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ARTS COLLEGE, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire
    "Restless Spirits and Ringing Bells"

A sea bell tolls, the usually lively fishing port becomes suddenly deserted as a terrible mist engulfs the village bringing sickness and death to the community. The villagers believe that the mist is really the vengeful spirits of those who have lost their lives at sea. Seeking sanctuary at the local Abbey - they ask for help. But will their prayers be answered?

    PETERHEAD ACADEMY, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
    "2012: The Truth"

December the 21st, 2012, and as technology takes over our lives, the ancients warn that the world is going to end ... or do they? Travel back with us to the Mayans and learn what they actually predicted. Follow them as they worship the Sun, the Earth and the Underworld and watch what happens when Venus dominates the sky.

RAWLETT COMMUNITY SPORTS COLLEGE, Tamworth, Staffordshire
    "What Lies Within?"

After Prometheus' theft of the gift of fire, Zeus was angry and ordered the creation of the first women, Pandora, as part of the punishment of mankind. Against all warning, Prometheus' brother, married Pandora. Zeus gave Pandora a box that must never be opened as a wedding present. He also gave her curiosity. Can she fight temptation despite the dangers?

SOUTH HOLDERNESS TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE, Preston, East Riding of Yorkshire
"What Would Be Inside Your Head?"

The profound piece starts with a street frozen in time. Two characters move through the street setting the scene. The street comes alive, with the patrolling soldiers coming under attack. They collapse at the front of the stage and the stage becomes a platform for expressing "what's inside their head". The work closes, with their troop recovering the missing soldiers.

    SOUTHFIELD TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE, Workington, Cumbria
    "Silence is broken"

Domestic and social violence usually starts off with a few angry words and hurt feelings that don't get resolved. Our performance shows a family that was once happy that has been torn apart through intimidation and abuse. Our Mother chooses not to retreat into fear and isolation, instead, prioritising the children that she loves to ensure that they are safe.

ST PAUL'S CATHOLIC SCHOOL, Evington, Leicestershire
    "Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber"

Was Sweeney Todd a real person, or was he an invented bogeyman? The notorious Demon Barber has been called 'the greatest mass murderer in English history'. With his cut-throat razor, he is said to have robbed and butchered over 160 victims in his Fleet Street barber shop and then with his accomplice, Margery Lovett, cooked their flesh for meat pies.

THORNTON GRAMMAR SCHOOL, Bradford, West Yorkshire
    "STALEMATE"

Our piece is an abstract interpretation of what we deem an innocent game. Chess, is it simple or complex? Are there hidden agendas? Is it conformity, conflict, betrayal, fear? Is it black versus white, rook versus knight, and who really is the strongest piece? Can we learn to love our differences? Will anybody win, or will it end in stalemate?

WITHERNSEA HIGH SCHOOL, Withernsea, East Riding of Yorkshire
    "War of the Worlds"

No one would have believed that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. Few men even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely they drew their plans against us.
